Week 1
“Giants in the Bible” by Tim Chaffey is an easy-to-read article at www.answersingenesis.org/bible-characters/giants-in-the-bible.
In No God but One, Allah or Jesus, Nabeel Qureshi compares Islam and Christianity with an emphasis on how Christians can effectively share their faith. This book is recommended for grades 11 and 12.
Week 2
The Reformation ABC’s by Stephen J. Nichols and Ned Bustard features the people, places, and things of the Reformation and is good for first grade up.
Simonetta Carr has beautiful picture book biographies of several reformers for third grade and up.
Trailblazer Books and the Light Keepers series have several books on reformers for fifth grade and up.
Douglas Bond has exciting novels featuring reformers for eighth grade and up.
The Reformation, How a Monk and a Mallet Changed the World by Stephen J. Nichols is an enjoyable, easy, informative read for seventh grade up.
The Torchlighters has several episodes on reformers, including Episode 15: “The Martin Luther Story.”
Chosen by God by R. C. Sproul clearly lays out Reformed doctrine for ninth grade and up.
“Does God Reward Us for being Obedient to His Word” is a great article, but read it before giving it to younger children. You could easily copy and paste it into Microsoft Word or Google Docs to omit a small section if needed. You could also read it aloud for discussion and focus on what is most relevant to your students’ ages. It’s found at www.gotquestions.org/reward-for-obedience.html.
We didn’t have time to cover Deuteronomy 28:63, but there’s a quick and easy-to-read article called “Deuteronomy 28:63 God is Pleased to Curse His People” at www.readthehardparts.com/deuteronomy-2863-god-is-pleased-to-curse-his-people. It compares God’s emotions to those of a parent disciplining a child and those of a person reading about a criminal’s sentence. There’s satisfaction that justice has been maintained, but also sadness and frustration at the disobedience, along with compassion for the person who is disciplined. God is just and must be pleased when He carries out justice. At the same time, He is compassionate and serves justice with the ultimate goal of His glory and the repentance of His children.
Week 3
Check out library books on Martin Luther King Jr. Have older students read his speech I’ve Been to the Mountaintop which can be found online. It was given on April 3, 1968, the day before he died. Younger students could skip to the last paragraph of that speech. Dr. King heavily references Moses’ final speech. It’s powerful.
