Hi, I'm Ashley!

I’m a teacher and professor turned homeschooling mom of five, and I'm passionate about the Bible.

Why? Because God's Word carried me through the most trying times in my life. I don't know how I could have made it through infant loss, trying to raise an adopted child with the isolating diagnosis of Radical Attachment Disorder, deciding to place that child with a family better suited to her needs after two years of trying my hardest, fighting for a marriage that fell apart during the adoption trauma and ended with my husband leaving two weeks after the birth of our fifth child, battling a chronic illness that isn't well understood, my house burning to the ground, living in a hotel for a year because insurance was slow, and then finally building a new life in a new city.

I would not have made it without God's Word encouraging me and reminding me who God is and who I am. Like my favorite hymn says-

How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord, is laid for your faith in His excellent Word!

I wanted to lay this foundation for my kids, so I sacrificed in order to continue homeschooling. I absolutely love homeschool curriculum! I get excited looking through all the choices each year and deciding what to use with my five kids. They all have different learning styles, so we use material published by several different companies, and sometimes I just wing it without a specific curriculum.

A Bible curriculum that fit our family wasn't something I could find.

My non-negotiables were:

  • A solid foundation in Christian doctrine
  • Everyone included
    • Elementary to high school
  • Flexible and easy
    • Going down rabbit holes is great, but sometimes we don't have time.
    • With five kids, I needed easy- just open and go!
  • Discussion-based
    • I wanted to talk things out with my kids and help them find the answers to hard questions. I knew that either I could tackle the tricky bits with them, or they’d eventually face the hard topics without me to help them see God’s goodness and love in it all.
    • I wanted them to see me get excited discussing God’s Word because excitement is contagious.
    • By talking through the Bible, I knew my kids would learn how to approach Bible study on their own.
    • I didn't want to just hand my kids a Bible study, hoping it was solid and would teach what I wanted them to know. Discussion would allow me to participate in and take ownership of my kids’ spiritual education.

Since I couldn't find everything I wanted in a Bible curriculum, I decided to create one.

When I first started homeschooling, I was surprised to hear so many intelligent moms say they didn't think they were capable of teaching their children.

I designed the Talk Through the Bible curriculum not to teach children, but to empower moms to teach their children by talking through God's Word with them, laying a firm foundation- no stress, just open and go with confidence.

My prayer is that these Bible study discussion guides bless your family as much as they've blessed mine!

I hope these guides help you:

  • Reveal God's character
  • Teach solid Christian doctrine
  • Present the Bibe as one big story
  • Teach your children to make connections in the Bible rather than read passages as individual and isolated from the rest of Scripture
  • Demonstrate how the Old Testament points to Jesus and the New Testament
  • Show that human nature hasn't changed, we can relate to those before us, and all of us need Christ
  • Discover how through the Holy Spirit, all Scripture can penetrate our hearts, teach us, convict us, and change us
