Which Homeschool Bible Curriculum is Right for Me?

Choosing a homeschool Bible curriculum is one of the most important decisions you'll make as a parent. You need a program that's theologically sound, age-appropriate, and easy to use.

Let me take some pressure off and help you find the best fit for your family! I've linked five of my favorites below. Each is unique and will work for families at different ages and stages.

Top 5 Bible Curricula:

1. Talk Through the Bible: Family Discussion Guides

Focus: Theology and doctrine through guided family discussion

What it is: Talk Through the Bible is a discussion-based Bible curriculum for ages 7-16. As students read through and discuss the Bible starting in Genesis, they discover God’s character through His actions, see God’s plan from the beginning, and build a firm foundation of Christian doctrine.

Why Homeschoolers Love It:

• Deep Theological Focus: Complex doctrines and theological truths are discussed as Scripture addresses them. After tackling challenging topics together, students will be prepared when the world questions their faith.

• All Ages Together: Elementary students to teens are challenged to think critically as leading questions and Scripture references help them discover Bible truths for themselves so they can take ownership of their faith.

• No Prep: The open-and-go lessons don't require any planning, pre-reading, or study. Just read the Bible chapter and start asking the questions. (Additional resources and optional activities are linked and may require prep.)

2. Not Consumed: Character & Topical Studies

Focus: Topical Bible studies designed to instill Christ-like character traits

What it is: Not Consumed Ministries offers a wide range of topical studies for different age groups. Their short unit studies focus on specific, practical topics like contentment or fear. They're designed to be highly applicable to daily life.

Why Homeschoolers Love It:

• Family-Style Option: Studies are available in multiple age levels with a parent guide so families can study the same topic together.

• Practical Application: The lessons are structured to move beyond head knowledge and encourage heart change and practical obedience.

• Flexible Format: You can pick and choose studies based on the areas of character development you want to focus on.

3. BJU Press Bible Truths Series: Traditional Program

Focus: Systematic, grade-level instruction emphasizing a biblical worldview and the narrative of Creation, Fall, and Redemption

What it is: This is a structured, traditional curriculum for each grade level using textbooks and workbooks to trace the big picture story of Scripture through each lesson.

Why Homeschoolers Love It:

• Structure: Comprehensive program that provides a full 180-day year of lessons.

• Worldview Integration: The entire program is built on a biblical worldview foundation, teaching students not just the Bible stories, but how Scripture informs their understanding of history, science, and culture.

• Flexible Teaching: Parents can teach using the parent book or allow students to use the video-based distance learning option.

4. Apologia The Word in Motion: A Kinesthetic Approach

Focus: Memorizing the chronological narrative of the Bible using visual cues and hand motions

What it is: Apologia's The Word in Motion is a unique, multi-sensory Bible curriculum. It breaks down the overarching story of the Old and New Testaments into key periods, people, and books, assigning a specific hand motion and visual cue to each one.

Why Homeschoolers Love It:

• Kinesthetic Approach: This unique approach is perfect for active learners and makes it easy for multiple ages to participate and remember the timeline together.

• Video-Based Lessons: The curriculum includes video lessons as a help.

• Chronological with Overviews: It teaches the chronological storyline and then dives into overviews of each book of the Bible, giving students both the forest and the trees.

5. Tiny Theologians: Simple Doctrinal Truth for Little Ones

Focus: Introducing foundational systematic theology and doctrines to ages 2-10

What it is: Tiny Theologians offers simple, Gospel-centered, and theologically rich discipleship tools, including flashcards, workbooks, and journals. Their resources focus on teaching children about the attributes of God, the Trinity, the Gospel, and core doctrines of the faith.

Why Homeschoolers Love It:

• Doctrinal Depth: It doesn't shy away from deep theological concepts. It breaks them down for young children to understand.

• Visually Appealing: Their products are pretty! They have simple graphics and activities to make truth beautiful.

• Versatile Resources: The ABC cards and workbooks can serve as a starting point for family devotionals or Bible time.

Which homeschool Bible curriculum should you pick?

The one that's right for your family during this season of life. You know better than anyone else what will work for your kids. And if you try something that doesn't work, don't sweat it. You can always quit and try something new! You've got this!

Tiny Theologians- My pick for little kids.

Talk Through the Bible- My pick for 8 and up.

Not Consumed- My pick for short, character-building studies. I wouldn't use this to replace Bible study though. I'd use this as a supplement.

Apologia- My pick for younger kids that need multi-sensory lessons.

BJU- Not my pick because I'm not a textbook kind of girl, but it's a solid choice for you ladies who are!
